If your replaced Knee still hurts, feels loose, or has become stiff, you’re not imagining it, and you’re not stuck with it.
Why a Knee Replacement may need revising
- The Implant has loosened from the Bone
- Infection around the Joint
- The Knee feels unstable or gives way
- Wear of the plastic insert over time
- Stiffness that hasn’t improved with Physiotherapy
- A Fracture around the Implant
What happens when you see me
First we find the cause. That usually means examining you, fresh X-Rays, Blood Tests and sometimes a Joint Aspiration to rule out Infection. Revision Surgery only works if we fix the real reason the first one failed. Sometimes the answer isn’t Surgery at all, and I’ll tell you if so.
What the Surgery involves
Revision uses customised Implant systems, chosen to handle any Bone that has been lost, and needs more careful planning than a first replacement. The hospital stay is typically about a week, and I’ll give you a realistic Recovery plan before Surgery.
Revision Knee Replacement FAQs
What is Revision Knee Replacement?
It is an Operation that replaces part or all of a previous Knee Replacement that has failed, loosened, become Infected or unstable.
Why does my Knee still hurt after a Knee Replacement?
Common causes include loosening, Infection, Instability, Stiffness or a problem with Alignment. Finding the exact cause comes before any decision about Surgery.
What is the Revision Knee Replacement cost in Hyderabad?
It is usually more than a first replacement and depends on the Implants needed. You’ll get a written estimate once we know what the Knee needs.
How long is the hospital stay after a Revision Knee Replacement?
Typically about a week at AIG Hospitals, Banjara Hills, as Revision is a bigger Operation than a first replacement. You’ll start Physiotherapy in hospital and go home with a written Recovery plan.
Is Revision Knee Replacement riskier than the first Operation?
It is a bigger Operation, so the risks are generally higher. That’s why careful Diagnosis and planning matter so much.
How do you check for Infection after a Knee Replacement?
Blood Tests, Imaging and sometimes a Joint Aspiration, where fluid is drawn from the Knee and tested.
My first Knee Replacement was done elsewhere. Can you help?
Yes. Bring every report, X-Ray and your Operation notes if you have them.
What is recovery like after Revision Knee Replacement?
Usually slower than after a first replacement. You’ll have a structured Physiotherapy plan and regular reviews.
Does every painful Knee Replacement need revision?
No. Some problems settle with other treatment. I’ll tell you honestly if Surgery isn’t the answer.
How do I choose the best Surgeon for Revision Knee Replacement in Hyderabad?
Revision needs specific experience: finding why the first replacement failed, testing for Infection, and planning customised Implants. Ask how the cause will be confirmed before Surgery. Dr Gowtham manages Revision Knee Replacement at AIG Hospitals, Banjara Hills.
Can I get a second opinion on Revision Knee Replacement?
