When Knee Arthritis starts deciding how you live your day, a replacement can give you your walks, stairs and sleep back. My job is to tell you honestly whether you’re there yet.
Signs it may be time to consider a Knee Replacement
- Pain that wakes you at night or stops you from walking short distances
- Stairs, sitting on the floor or getting up from a chair have become hard
- Physiotherapy, medicines, weight management and Injections no longer help
- X-Rays show advanced wear, and it matches how you feel
What I check first
Two people with the same X-Ray can need completely different treatment. I examine the Knee, watch how you walk and ask what the Pain stops you from doing. If a replacement isn’t the right step yet, I’ll tell you and we’ll plan what to do instead.
How a Knee Replacement works
The worn ends of the Thigh and Shin Bones are resurfaced with an Implant, and a smooth plastic insert sits between them. Your Ligaments and Muscles stay in place.
Customised Implant options
No two Knees are the same. I choose the Implant for your Knee’s shape, your age, how active you are and any metal sensitivity, including Ceramic Knee Replacement options. Where it adds value, Robotic Knee Replacement helps with precise planning and Alignment.
Your hospital stay and recovery
Surgery is done at AIG Hospitals, Banjara Hills. Most patients stay about 3 days. We follow an enhanced recovery pathway, so you start moving early with Physiotherapy, and you go home with a written recovery plan specific to you.
Knee Replacement FAQs
How long is the hospital stay after a Knee Replacement?
Most of my patients stay in hospital for about 3 days at AIG Hospitals, Banjara Hills. You’ll be walking with support and going through Physiotherapy before you go home.
What is the Knee Replacement cost in Hyderabad?
It depends on the Implant chosen, one Knee or both, and your room category at the hospital. After your Assessment, the team gives you a written estimate so there are no surprises.
Which Knee Implant is right for me?
Implant options are customised to your Knee, age, activity level and any metal sensitivity, including Ceramic Knee Replacement options. I’ll explain the choices and why I recommend one for you.
How long does a Knee Replacement last?
Modern Implants are designed to last many years, and most people never need another Operation on that Knee. If a replacement does wear or loosen later, Revision Knee Replacement can fix it.
What is the recovery time after a Knee Replacement?
Recovery is gradual: walking with support first, then stairs, then longer walks and daily activities. Most people are back to work at about 4 weeks, depending on their job, and driving at about 6 weeks. You’ll get a written, week-by-week Physiotherapy plan.
Is Robotic Knee Replacement better than conventional Surgery?
Both can give excellent results. Robotic Knee Replacement helps with planning and precision in some Knees. We’ll decide together whether it adds value for you.
Can both Knees be replaced at the same time?
Sometimes, if your general health allows. We’ll discuss replacing one Knee at a time versus both together, and what each means for recovery.
What is the right age for a Knee Replacement?
There’s no fixed age. What matters is how much the Knee limits your life, your overall health, and whether simpler treatment has had a fair try.
Can I avoid a Knee Replacement?
Often, for a while. Exercise, weight management, medicines and Injections help many people. See Knee Arthritis Treatment Without Surgery and PRP & Joint Injections.
Will I be able to climb stairs and sit comfortably after Surgery?
Stairs and walking usually improve a great deal once you’ve recovered. Sitting cross-legged or on the floor may stay difficult for some people, and we’ll talk about what to expect for your Knee.
How do I choose the best Knee Replacement Surgeon in Hyderabad?
Look for formal training in Joint Replacement, experience with both routine and Revision cases, a hospital with a strong Rehab team, and a Surgeon who explains when you don’t need an Operation. Dr Gowtham is UK-trained (MCh Orth, FEBOT) with 26 years in Orthopaedics, and operates at AIG Hospitals, Banjara Hills. Reading Google reviews from past patients also helps.
I’ve been advised a Knee Replacement. Can I get a second opinion?
Yes. Bring your X-Rays, reports and any letters. Read more about getting a second opinion.
