The Ilizarov Method
The Ilizarov Method uses a circular Frame outside the Limb, held by fine Wires, to hold Bone steady while it heals. I trained in the technique at the Russian Ilizarov Scientific Center for Restorative Traumatology and Orthopaedics in Kurgan, where the method was developed.
When it can help
- Severely shattered Fractures, especially around the Knee and Ankle
- Fractures that haven’t healed (Non-Union)
- Bone Infection after an Injury or earlier Surgery
- Limb shortening or Deformity
What to expect
The Frame stays on for weeks to months, depending on the Injury. Many patients can put weight on the Limb early, which helps healing and keeps them mobile. You’ll have regular reviews and Physiotherapy, and my team stays in touch throughout.
